I scream for ICE CREAM! I would say that my family seeks out the best ice cream in whatever neighborhood we find ourselves in but really it is me. I have a legendary sweet tooth and our weekend outings often include a visit to a neighborhood sweet spot.
I’m a huge fan of YELP because I love to go on and read what people say and see the pictures of what they’ve eaten. Based on what Yelpers had to say, I was pretty sure Milk was going to be good and I was not disappointed.
We had been to the Page Museum and La Brea Tar Pits so it was quick shot over to 7290 Beverly Blvd in the Fairfax neighborhood. When we arrived around 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon there was a line out the door but I knew to expect this based on Yelp reviews. We waited about 20 minutes and as the line passed through the front door I was surprised to see that they aslo serve soups and sandwiches. I didn’t see anyone ordering food but they also had a number of tasty looking treats in a bakery case around the side of the front counter.
I ordered a mint chocolate chip macaroon ice cream sandwich ($5). The ice cream was lovely and the macaroon was a surprisingly delicious twist on the cookie I typically experience with an ice cream sandwich. Katherine ordered a cookies and cream ice cream cone ($3.50 for one scoop) and the boys both ordered milkshakes called The MILKIE Way Malt (vanilla ice cream, malted milk, chocolate chips and caramel-chocolate swirl). At $7 a shake you can expect a miraculous concoction and both boys were in gluttons’ heaven and they had to fight off my husband who was trying to abstain from sweets on that day. I was really happy with my ice cream sandwich but I think it is safe to say that the boys hit the jackpot with their orders. It isn’t surprising to me at all that LA Weekly chose to feature Milk and this particular milkshake in a piece title “10 Best Milkshakes in Los Angeles“. (post published note: not that I’m obsessed with this milkshake or anything, but while searching for photos of this shake to pin I discovered that this milkshake was in fact designated 2013 Best Milkshake in Los Angeles. There ya go!)
Don’t expect to eat inside or to find a place to sit outside if you go when it is busy. People on Yelp also complain about lack of parking but we actually had no trouble parking in a metered spot across the street. We’ll definitely visit again.
